Tulong Pang-Edukasyon Program: LGU’s response to Distance Learning
by: Eric John D. Lao, ABIS

IN LINE with the City’s motto Gawa Hindi Salita, Mandaluyong Mayor Carmelita A. Abalos together with the City Council, strengthened their support to education by providing gadgets to teachers and learners for the implementation of digitized modular distance learning modality and eventually online distance learning modality in the city.
The city government has given a total of 41,000 tablets to Grade 4 to 12 students and 2,300 laptops to regular or permanent public school teachers in the city as part of the administration’s Tulong Pang-edukasyon Program in the Distance Learning setup.
“I am very thankful because it helped me on my online class and I promise that I will take care of it until I step down from my post as SPG president of my school and the Division of Mandaluyong,” said Hanna Victoria Palapar in Filipino, sixth grader of Andres Bonifacio Integrated School (ABIS) and President of Mandaluyong Children Division Federation Supreme Pupil Government (SPG).
The tablets were distributed through their parents or guardians with a corresponding Property Acknowledgement Receipt (PAR) from their class advisers while teachers personally claimed their laptops with corresponding PAR for proper accountability.
On top of the tablets, students from Kindergarten to Senior High School received free MANDunong kits which contained shoes, uniform and socks.
“I believe, together with the members of the City Council, that classes should continue and quality education be provided amid this pandemic.” said Mayor Menchie A. Abalos in Filipino during the distribution of tablets, laptops and Mandunong kits.
Furthermore, the DepEd Mandaluyong continues to work with the Local Government Unit in addressing all the challenges in the education sector in light of this COVID-19 pandemic.
