TECHNOLOGY has certainly altered the way we live. It has impacted different aspects of life and redefined living. Technology has also burrowed its way into the field of education, revolutionizing and changing it many ways.

The Philippine learning system never ignored the role of technology in which became an asset for not putting the education on hold. The Schools Division Office (SDO) Mandaluyong City and its adoption of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) by the Department of Education (DepEd), has proved its commitment to assist the needs of teaching and learning via various mediums against the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic.

In spite of the increasing role of technology in education, BE-LCP does not only cover the digital aspects of learning but also tackles the readiness for distance learning delivery. Our SDO with the strong support of the local government unit, has generated tools and mechanisms to operationalize the mission of the program.

The survey results regarding the school’s future enrollees and information dissemination especially on mass and social media became crucial in the implementation of the BE-LCP. The initial step shaped the readiness of DepEd on the preference of every learner.

Contextualized LCPs vary on every region in the Philippines and Mandaluyong City has assured methods in achieving the competencies of learners through appropriate methods such as providing learners’ packets, digital and offline reference materials provided via DepEd Commons, use of instructional videos, and distribution of designed modules. Thanks to our honorable teachers in their full cooperation to craft modules and become the lead roles of our lesson videos.

Now that we have immersed ourselves into a digitized form of learning, let us hope that the off switch from our computer, mobile phone or social media account stays for our gadgets and not for our brains.

There are no barriers in an institution’s steadfast implementers of solution-based programs. Everything we do is for the future of our learners. There’s no stopping in progress. From educators, learners and stakeholders, the operation of the BE-LCP – another milestone in Philippine education – will not be possible amidst the challenging pandemic.
